Lots of changes on the horizon for my family and I…. and yes, all are POSITIVE changes :-)
The big one (right now) is that I got a job offer at an attorney’s office downtown. Whoo hoo! Right now, I’m in real estate and kinda over it already. LOL Not quite sure if I should accept it yet… let’s run down the list, shall we?
PLUS:
- it’s in the same field that I will eventually get into (law) - I’ll be going to law school next year
- the pay is equivalent for this entry level position (I’m management in my current position)
- paid for overtime (salaried at my current position… any OT is unpaid bleh!)
- 6 mo individual merit bonuses and annual team bonuses
- the firm will support my decision for law school and work around my schedule (part time if need be)
- insurance is paid for
- less taxes to Uncle Sam (on paper I will be making less than what I make now BUT the firm will pay my family’s insurance whereas right now I pay $6K a year for it!)
- flexible work hours
- i can work from home after 6 months (they’ll pay for 50% of my internet bill)
- save gas because I’ll be taking the bus
- they’ll pay 50% of a gym membership
CONS:
- no parking, so I’ll be taking the bus
- I’m “comfortable” in my current position and have a sense of job security (but what does ‘job security’ REALLY mean in this economy??)
- 5 days less sick leave
- on paper I’ll be making less (not sure why this is a ‘con’ just yet… but it sounds like it should be here)
- commute will take longer = time away from family
- I’ll have a boss again (right now, I report to the company’s VP who is pretty much hands off and in a different branch)
- no added benefits like AFLAC (but I can still pay for AFLAC out of pocket on my own)
- my former co-worker said there’s drama in the office (normal office b/s though… there’s always drama… bleh)
- I have no legal experience (but I DO have a Criminal Justice degree)
- I’d be working w/ a collections attorney
The hubby and I are really leaning towards taking the job. I’m still hesitant though, probably because of #2 on the cons list. The firm is currently asking all employees to do a minimum of 5 hours OT, which means $1000+ extra a month for us… we could REALLY use it right now!! They’re going to give me my ‘formal’ offer in writing tomorrow… so I’ll have a few days to think about it.
What do you think?
Love love love
